'Tis the Season...
...hunting season, that is.
Well, 'tisn't yet, but it will be soon. From October 7 to 13 is bow and crossbow hunting season, and from November 4 to 17 is rifle hunting. The entire period, October 7 to November 17, is open for bird hunting with shotguns.
We have the hunters of the Famous Grouse Lodge, located on chemin du Mille-Isles, who have permission to hunt our woods in return for keeping other uninvited hunters (i.e., poachers) away. Our team are very clear on the laws, stay well away from our houses and take every safety precaution. That said, accidents can happen and tiptoeing through the woods during hunting season is a bad idea. Mummy always made us wear bright clothes and sing at the top of our lungs, even while walking on the road, during hunting season. It seemed effective enough as none of us got shot.
So, to summarize:
Between October 7 and November 17, make yourself visible (bright clothes) and audible (singing is good) if you want to walk in the woods. Better yet, stick to the roads and near houses where the hunters won't be. Also, try to keep your pets from barreling off into the woods.
